ING DIRECT volunteers and donates $10,000 for Orange Day of Caring

By Trevor Turner, Programs Outreach Coordinator

I was excited to spend the day with a great group of volunteers from ING DIRECT yesterday! The group arrived early in the morning eager to get to work! After a quick breakfast catered by our Culinary School, the group put together 500 school supplies for children in need. The bags included rulers, notebooks, crayons, erasers and more to help kids start the school year on the right foot! In addition to providing volunteers to pack these bags, ING DIRECT also donated $10,000 to cover the costs of school supplies and food for weekend food bags for the Backpack Program.

The volunteers were quick and efficient and finished packing the school supplies in no time! Next up – weekend food bags for the Backpack Program! ING DIRECT volunteers packed 1,262 plastic bags full of food for our Backpack Program. The Backpack Program provides weekend and holiday food to children who are at risk of hunger when school is not in session. Last year we distributed more than 84,000 bags through 76 statewide sites!

Thank you to ING DIRECT for your enthusiasum and commitment to ending hunger! We appreciate your support yesterday and throughout the year!
