The Journey Church works to “Feed the First State”

By: Alyssa Wilkinson, Guest Blogger, The Journey

You hear the stories all the time – children going hungry, families out of work and struggling to make it. More often than not, our thoughts immediately go to third-world countries and very rarely do our own neighbors come to mind. Unfortunately, that’s what we’re dealing with right here in Delaware.

The Journey, a local church in Newark, DE, has decided it is time to take action on behalf of our community. In an effort to raise awareness of the hunger epidemic that is tearing through Delaware, we are hosting parties the last weeks of July. FeedtheFirstState is The Journey’s summer service project to help support the Food Bank of Delaware. The goal is to raise at least 5,000 cans of food to donate to the Food Bank. Every item donated will help Delawareans who need us. The Journey will match $1 for every food item that’s dropped off!

If you would like to be a part of Feed the First State and get involved in a community event, check out feedthefirststate.com for more information on when and where you can help make a difference!
