Department of Labor’s Cake Wars benefits Food Bank of Delaware

Last week our Executive Chef, Tim Hunter, had the opportunity to serve as a guest judge for the Department of Labor’s first-ever Cake Wars bakeoff! With 20 cakes to taste, the judging was intense. Tim joined two other guest judges, Sonia Brode, owner of Catering By Sonia and the cafes at The Pond and Wilmington Skating Club, and Aurora Gonzalez, an owner of Celebrity Kitchens.

Cakes ranged from carrot cake, cheesecake and chocolate cakes to pineapple upside-down cakes. After two hours of intense taste testing the judges finally declared a winner!

First place: Franny Davis-Mace’s coconut cake
Second place: Julie Evans’ carrot cake
Third place: Maureen Creedon’s elaborate three-tiered, three-flavored pound cake

After the winners’ were announced, Department of Labor staff members had the opportunity to purchase pieces of cake. All cake sales benefitted the Food Bank of Delaware and more than $409 was raised!

Thank you to the staff at the Department of Labor for hosting a creative fundraiser to benefit the Food Bank! Check out some photos from the competition!
