Food Lion Donates $3,000 for West Seaford Elementary School Pantry

We’re excited to announce a $3,000 gift from our friends at the Food Lion Charitable Foundation for our school pantry at West Seaford Elementary School! The program has really taken off and we couldn’t be happier! The families we are serving really need the assistance!

“We are thankful for Food Lion’s support in making sure that at-risk families with children in the Seaford School District have access to nutritious foods,” said our President and CEO, Patricia Beebe. “Thanks to their generosity we will be able to make sure this pantry is stocked with healthy household essentials.”

“The Parent and Family Resource Center is extremely grateful to the Food Lion Charitable Foundation for their very generous contribution.  We will be able to help so many Seaford School District families,” said Dena King, Parent and Family Resource Center Coordinator.

Through the new program, at-risk families with students enrolled in Seaford School District schools will be able to access emergency food and hygiene products by visiting a food pantry within the school. Twenty-five to 30 families will be discretely identified by school officials, and the new pantry will offer a variety of nutritious food products and hygiene items. Families will select food based on their household’s needs each week. Food for the pantry will be provided by the Food Bank of Delaware and school-wide food drives or community donations.

The Parent and Family Resource Center at West Seaford Elementary School was created to help increase parent and family involvement in children’s education.  In addition to offering free computer classes for adults, homework help for students, parenting workshops, and more, the Parent and Family Resource Center also strives to provide support and resources.

Established in 2001, the Food Lion Charitable Foundation provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding the hungry in the communities it serves.

The Food Lion family of banners, based in Salisbury, N.C., operates more than 1,300 supermarkets, either directly or through affiliated entities, under the names of Food Lion, Bloom, Harveys or Reid’s. These stores meet local customer needs and preferences for the freshest and best quality products.
