Help us collect holiday meals for families in need!

It’s hard to believe, but the holiday season is upon us! It’s time to kick off our annual holiday food drive! This year, with the help of our community, we hope to collect 150,000 pounds of food for those struggling to put meals on the table.

With 2011 donations down by more than three million pounds from 2010, we hope the community will step up in a big way to help fill the cupboards of the less fortunate this holiday season.

“Close to one in four Delawareans depend on emergency food assistance services,” said our President and CEO Patricia Beebe. “This holiday season I encourage all Delawareans to take a stand against hunger and help make the holiday season bright for our struggling neighbors in need.”

We are asking for the public’s assistance in making sure that no Delawarean goes without a holiday meal this season. Businesses, schools, faith-based organizations and other community groups are encouraged to organize food drives throughout the holiday season.

We are currently in need of the following items:

  • Macaroni and cheese
  • Canned or packets of gravy
  • Pie crust
  • Chocolate pudding mix
  • Cranberry sauce
  • Seasoned stuffing mix
  • Biscuit mix
  • Instant mashed potatoes
  • Canned vegetables (green beans, corn, yams and peas)
  • Canned fruits (pineapple and apple sauce)
  • Pancake mix and syrup
  • Apple juice
  • Turkey roasting pans
  • Frozen turkeys (drop off to Newark or Milford warehouses only)

Starting a food drive is simple! Choose a date to start your drive and be sure to publicize. Flyers, emails, company intranet, morning announcements and word of mouth are all great ways to publicize it. You can distribute this holiday shopping list to co-workers, family, friends and others! Have food donations dropped off to a central location within your place of business or worship, school, etc. For more guidance, download our food drive organization kit!

Those who collect more than 20 boxes/bags of donated food may make arrangements with the Food Bank of Delaware to have donations picked up. In an effort to save money on transportation costs, we are requesting that donations of fewer than 20 bags/boxes be dropped off at one of our facilities:
