Thank you to the AARP Foundation for presenting us with a check for $10,000 as part of their Drive Out Hunger campaign! The donation will allow us to provide 40,000 meals for Delawareans in need! NASCAR driver, Jeff Gordon, and AARP Delaware State Director, Lucretia Young, presented the check to our Milford Branch Manager, Crystal Timmons, and Board Member, George Reissig of Pixstar, Inc., on Friday night at a special Drive to End Hunger event outside the Dover Mall. Gordon drives the No.24 Drive to End Hunger Cheverolet and has championed the issue of senior hunger.
A live radio broadcast from 94.7 WDSD helped build awareness of hunger in Delaware. Hundreds of NASCAR fans gathered with canned good donations in hopes to receive an autograph from Gordon! Fans brought 3,724 pounds of food! W.T. Chipman Middle School students were also honored at the event for their efforts to collect food for hungry Delawareans! Since last spring the students have collected more than 25,000 cans for the Food Bank and, today, donated 4,826 pounds of food to our efforts to alleviate hunger!
AARP’s Drive to End Hunger initiative is an effort to combat the issue of hunger among older Americans. To read more about the initiative, please visit www.drivetoendhunger.org.
