Vanguard’s “All Cans on Deck” food drive collects 31,070 pounds

By Larry Haas, Development Director

I was excited to be a part of Vanguard’s “All Cans on Deck” food drive earlier this month! The company’s associates in Wayne, PA were successful in collecting more than 31,000 pounds of food for the Food Bank of Delaware! The campaign, now in its 15th year, benefits food banks and hot-meal programs that are within communities where Vanguard operates. A special thanks to Vanguard Chairman and CEO, Bill McNabb, for supporting the initiative. He is here pictured with other Vanguard team members!

Thanks to 12,000-plus crew members at Vanguard’s three U.S. locations, this year’s drive was their most successful ever! The crew collected 1.16 million food, personal-care and pet items for at-need families across the country. The 2011 drive surpassed 2010’s record by more than 200,000 items!

To help surpass last year’s total, Vanguard employees organized numerous company and department-wide events including, chili and dessert cook-offs, car shows, Hawaiian-shirt days, water balloon tosses, volleyball and tug-of-war games, can structure events and more!

We’re so happy that Vanguard recognizes the critical need for food donations during the summer months. Their donation will help us replenish empty shelves and provide 23,900 meals to Delawareans in need!

The “All Cans on Deck” drive was coordinated by Vanguard Community Volunteers, a volunteer-led program that coordinates activities throughout the year to assist diverse groups of children, families, people with disabilities, the elderly and others in the community.

Here are some more photos from the drive, including a few FBD staff members with our friends from Vanguard!
