Thirteen students from our Culinary School were honored this morning for successfully completing the Culinary Arts Skills Training program.
Under the instruction of Chef Instructor Mark Saunders, students have spent the past 12 weeks developing their skills in the culinary arts. From proper knife handling techniques to sautéing and braising, the
students are prepared for entry-level jobs in the culinary arts. A significant portion of their training included preparation of several large catering jobs for the food bank and other outside customers. In addition to culinary skills, the students also spent time developing skills in conflict resolution, anger management, interviewing, resume writing and more.
“This is the first step in what I hope and I’m sure will be a successful career in our industry,” said keynote speaker, William Tillinghast, VP Northeast Region, American Culinary Federation and Director, The International Culinary School at the Art Institute of Philadelphia. “There is a level of human dignity that is
found in getting up, going to work and giving your best every day.”
“The empowerment life skills aspect of the program has really helped me grow as a person,” said graduate Lupe Hernandez. “I came to school very shy, but am now outgoing and really looking forward to my job prospects.”
