We would not be able to feed close to 242,000 Delawareans each year without our network of 440 hunger-relief program partners! These partners include soup kitchens, shelters, food pantries and other community-based nonprofit organizations who provide free food assistance to those in need. Last night and this afternoon we celebrated the work of our network with an appreciation reception in Newark and a luncheon in Milford. It was great to spend time with those who are on the frontlines in our battle against hunger in Delaware.
Oftentimes when people think of the Food Bank of Delaware, they think our facility is the place where those in need come to get food assistance. However, we don’t provide direct relief to the public. Our job is to solicit food from all sectors of the food industry. It is the job of our hunger-relief program partners to distribute food. We are the only facility in Delaware that can efficiently and effectively source food, warehouse it and get it out to those who need it most. Through out network we distributed 7.7 million pounds of food last year!
Thank you to our partners for their efforts to alleviate hunger in Delaware!
