According to Milford Walmart Store Manager Stephanie Edwards, associates from nine Walmart stores in the state of Delaware spent one month voting from a group of five Delaware nonprofits to decide the 2010 Associates Choice grant winner. We are so happy that we were chosen – the competition was stiff!
“We are so honored to be standing here this morning,” said our President and CEO Patricia Beebe. “We are here because you voted. This money will be critical in ensuring that we can meet increased demands for food assistance. Right now we are serving close to 242,000 Delawareans each year – 44 percent of those Delawareans are children under the age of 18 – you understand how critical these services are.”
Several dignitaries joined us in thanking Walmart! “This store here in Milford keeps people employed, thank you for all that you do in our community,” said State Representative Robert Walls.
“Today’s award from Walmart goes to show you that the employees make things happen, employees make our businesses successful,” said Milford Mayor Joseph Rogers.
“Your grant money will have a great impact on our neighbors in need,” said State Representative Darryl Scott. “During these tough economic times many are looking to state government and we can’t do it alone. Your support will help tens of thousands of Delawareans.”
We will use the $100,000 award to help fund some of our hunger-relief efforts including the mobile pantry, backpack and after-school feeding programs. In addition, a portion of the funds will be used to help fund student scholarships for The Culinary School, our 12-week program that trains under and unemployed adults in culinary arts.
THANK YOU WALMART!!
