Our annual holiday food drive began last week and we’re hoping to collect 200,000 pounds of food this season for our struggling neighbors in need! Close to 242,000 Delawareans depend on our network of emergency food assistance services each year! We could not feed this many Delawareans without the support of our community! To ensure that your holiday food drive is a success we’ve put together some helpful tips!
- Plan ahead! Set the date for your food drive, determine what foods you’ll collect and collect and signage and boxes.
- Make it competitive! Compete against other departments, classrooms, teams, etc. to make your food drive fun. Some possible competitions include: largest individual donations, most protein products, most unusual food item … and the list goes on! Use your imagination!
- Have a theme! A food drive is a great way to build camraderie and team spirt! Here are some ideas: Food Day: designate days of the week for specific food items – Macaroni Monday, Tuna Tuesday, Wheaties Wednesday… Holiday Meal Drive: ingredients to make holiday meals – instant mashed potatoes, gravy, seasoned stuffing mix, canned vegetables and more!
