Eagle Scout Collects More Than 4,000 Pounds of Food!

Meet Nick Insly. He’s a Junior at Appoquinimink High School, a member of the varsity soccer and swim teams and has a 3.9 GPA!  He recently hosted a VERY successful food drive for us! Nick began working on his Eagle Scout project back in November 2009. “After thinking about the economy, I gathered that this food drive would benefit the greatest amount of people in our area,” he said. Nick encouraged the Boy Scouts in the Middletown area to join forces to collect as much food as possible. His goal was to collect 1.5 tons of food!

In order to meet his goal he estimated that 100 volunteers would be needed to pass out bags to 2,000 houses in the community. Nick assigned nine different volunteer groups consisting of six to eight people to cover the houses. At the end of the drive, the volunteers picked up packed bags from 12 neighborhoods. The scouts sorted the food and delivered 4,602 pounds to the Food Bank!!

Thank you to Nick for his commitment to alleviating hunger in Delaware!

Check out some photos from the project!
