The Chicken Heist BBQ is Back!

Why did the chicken cross the street? To get to the other side?

NO! To get to the Food Bank of Delaware’s Annual Chicken Heist Barbeque!

It’s back! We’re holding our second annual “Great Chicken Heist Barbeque” on Thursday, June 17 (next week!)  from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at our warehouse in Newark (14 Garfield Way). Remember last year? We had a life-sized chicken cut out, an appearance from YouDee, great food, an awesome band – and a torrential downpour! Despite the rain, everyone had a great time and we’ve decided to make it an annual event!

“When our two trucks filled with 57,000 pounds of chicken were stolen from our Newark facility in June 2008, you can imagine the disbelief,” said Patricia Beebe, our President and CEO. “Last year we decided to commemorate the theft with a barbeque to thank those who stepped up during our time of need. Our guests had such a great time that we’ve decided to make it a free annual event to thank all of those who support us. We know that we can’t possibly feed 241,600 Delawareans each year without the support of our community.”

The event is open to the public and admission is just one bag of nonperishable goods for our hunger relief-efforts. There will be a buffet of barbeque favorites prepared by our Executive Chef Tim Hunter and Chefs Rob Jordan and Gaylan Maxson, cash bar and blues music from The Porkroll Project.

 The menu includes:

  • Rosemary and garlic grilled chicken
  • Chef Gaylan’s “Full of Love” fried chicken
  • Chef Rob’s sweet and smokey mesquite ribs
  • Old Bay crab cakes with corn salsa
  • Pulled beef brisket
  • Chocolate pudding cake
  • Peanut butter brownie sundae
  • And more!!

When: Thursday, June 17, 2010; 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Where: Food Bank of Delaware parking lot, 14 Garfield Way, Newark, Del.
Admission: One bag of nonperishable goods
