Introducing the Food Bank Café

Today was the first day of The Culinary School‘s new Food Bank Café. The Café was designed to give our Culinary students an opportunity to experience the workings of a restaurant in a controlled environment. Food Bank staff were invited to make “reservations” for one of two seatings – 11:30 a.m. or 12:30 p.m. Upon entering the Bistro, a hostess brought staff to their tables, distributed menus and then took drink orders. Waiters/waitresses took the staff’s order and then a team of chefs in the kitchen prepared each meal. Chef Instructor Tim Hunter was there to provide support and keep the kitchen moving. “The Café is a new part of our curriculum. It gives students some idea of the fast nature of the food industry before we place them in internships,” he said.
